Bloomfield Hills Sauna & Cold Plunge Suite

A Complete Home Wellness Experience

Bringing Sauna, Cold Plunge, and Recovery Together

This new Bloomfield Hills home was designed with something special in mind: a dedicated space where sauna, cold therapy, and relaxation could become part of everyday life.

Rather than treating the sauna as a standalone amenity, the homeowners created an entire wellness suite. The custom built-in sauna anchors the room, with an adjacent wet area designed for a rain shower and future cold plunge, plus plenty of space for a comfortable lounge and recovery area.

Sauna Bath Co. was brought in to design and build the custom sauna and help bring the centerpiece of the space to life.

Designed Around the Ritual

A great sauna experience extends beyond the time spent in the heat.

For many sauna enthusiasts, the ritual follows a natural rhythm: heat, cool down, rest, and repeat. This room was designed around exactly that experience.

Step out of the sauna and the wet area is immediately adjacent, making it easy to transition into a cool shower or, once installed, the cold plunge. From there, the dry lounge area provides a comfortable place to hydrate, relax, and allow the body to recover before another round.

Everything happens within one thoughtfully planned space, creating an experience that feels effortless rather than forced.

A Smarter Way to Integrate a Cold Plunge

Bringing a cold plunge indoors requires more planning than simply finding a place to put one. Water, drainage, waterproofing, and the surrounding materials all need to be considered from the beginning.

Here, an oversized walk-in shower creates a dedicated wet zone that solves those challenges beautifully. The space accommodates a rain shower while providing the waterproof footprint and floor drainage needed for the future cold plunge.

Tile throughout the room makes the transition between spaces feel cohesive, while integrated dimmable lighting allows the atmosphere to shift from bright and functional to warm, quiet, and relaxing.

More Than a Sauna. A Wellness Suite.

The finished space demonstrates what becomes possible when sauna is considered early in the design of a new home.

Instead of simply adding a sauna to an available room, the homeowners created an environment around the entire experience: heat, cold, recovery, and relaxation.

The result is a private wellness retreat where the custom sauna serves as the heart of a larger daily ritual. No appointments. No drive to the spa. Just a few steps from the rest of the home.

Sauna. Cold plunge. Rest. Repeat.
