Douglas Custom Outdoor Sauna

A quiet retreat near Lake Michigan

Near the shores of Lake Michigan in Douglas, this custom outdoor sauna gives a retired couple a place to slow down, enjoy the warmth, and make sauna bathing part of everyday life. Set on a deck just steps from their home, it brings a private retreat within easy reach through all four Michigan seasons.

Clean, modern lines complement the backyard, while the placement preserves space for outdoor living. The sauna feels at home here, with a thoughtful connection to the house and the landscape around it.

Michigan cedar, traditional warmth

Inside, locally harvested Michigan cedar brings warm tones, natural texture, and a connection to the region. A large custom window frames views of the backyard, inviting the outdoors into the quiet of the sauna.

An IKI sauna heater anchors the bathing experience. Together, the wood, warmth, and view create an inviting space where the homeowners can settle in and enjoy the simple pleasure of a well-built sauna.

Designed around daily life

The short walk from the house makes it easy to turn a sauna session into a familiar ritual. From the deck placement to the interior layout, each choice supports the way these homeowners want to spend their time.

At Sauna Bath Co., we build custom saunas around your home and the experience you want to create. This Douglas project reflects that approach: considered design, materials with character, and craftsmanship that brings lasting enjoyment to everyday life.
